Identity theft is something that happens to other people. Right? Wrong!

According to the Federal Trade Commission, identity theft affects 700,000 to 1 million new victims each year.

Digital crime is at an all-time high and everyday there are new and better ways to steal your personal information. Some of the more recent techniques include phishing, spoofing and pharming.

  • Phishing is the use of fraudulent emails to direct customers to fraudulent web sites that resemble legitimate bank sites.
  • Spoofing involves the generation of the fraudulent web sites, designed to mirror the legitimate site.
  • Pharming redirects every web-surfer legitimately trying to reach a compromised site to a fraudulent, "spoofed" web site.

What is Synovus doing?
